I’m a huge fan of cookbooks. I can spend hours pouring through them. I take notes, I admire the photographs, I think about new ingredients and new combinations to play with in my kitchen.
That said, I really dislike following recipes. I believe that recipes are merely tools that help spark creativity in the cook. If you are just beginning your journey into the world of cooking, then yes, I recommend you start simple and follow recipes to get yourself comfortable with proportions, ingredients, and processes.
